Visiting Professor
Yuko Tsuji graduated from Kunitachi College of Music and later completed its certificate program. She won Third Prize at the 4th Min-on Competition (now the Tokyo International Music Competition) in 1969. In the same year, she went to Vienna to study under Professors Erik Werba, A. Kollo, and W. Steinburg at the Hochschule für Musik in Wien. She won Third Prize at the Internationaler Musikwettbewerb der ARD in Munich in 1970, and in 1971 she won Second Prize at the Concurso Internacional de Ejecución Musical Maria Canals de Barcelona and First Prize at the Dutch International Vocal Competition 's-Hertogenbosch. After winning Second Prize at the Internationaler Wettbewerb für Liedkunst, she came back to Japan in the spring of 1975. While at home, she performed Mahler's Symphony No. 2 "Resurrection", Bach's "Matthäus-Passion", Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, Handel's "Messiah", and Elgar's "The Kingdom" with such ensembles as the NHK Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra, and the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra. In operatic performances, she has sung Lady Macbeth (Macbeth, 1974), The Witch (Hänsel und Gretel, 1980), Magdalene (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, 1981), Dame Quickly (Falstaff, 1983), Brünnhilde (Siegfried and Die Walküre), and Santuzza (Cavalleria Rusticana). She is a member of Nikikai Opera, and visiting professor in the College of Music, Ferris University. Bach: Erbarme dich
