Professor (Collaborative Pianist/Musicologist)
Dr. Tategami-Ozawa graduated with a BA degree from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. On a full overseas scholarship from the Rotary International Foundation, she completed her MA degree at the University of Chicago and DMA degree at the University of Southern California, where she was the first Japanese to receive a doctoral degree in accompaniment with the honor, "Most Outstanding Student of the Class". As winner of the Chicago Concerto Competition, Dr. Tategami-Ozawa has performed Mozart and Beethoven piano concertos in Chicago, and received the most prestigious award for accompanying, the Gwendolyn Koldofsky Award. She has studied with Mme. Koldofsky, Martin Katz, Roger Vignoles, Martin Isepp, Teruji Karashima, and Naoyuki Inoue. She is in great demand as an accompanist, ensemble player and opera coach. She collaborates regularly with internationally acclaimed musicians in Japan and abroad, such as: Stefan Dohr (principal horn, Berlin Philharmonic), Ian Bousfield (principal trombone, Vienna Philharmonic), Thomas Horch (principal trombone, Bayerische Rundfunk Orchestra), Rod Franks (principal trumpet, London Symphony), Richard Bissil, (principal horn, London Philharmonic), Rex Martin (tuba, Chicago Symphony), James Thompson (principal trumpet, Montreal Symphony), Andrea Derilla (principle trumpet, Teatro Communale di Firenze), as well as with singers from the Metropolitan Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, Canadian Opera, etc. As an internationally acclaimed collaborative pianist, she has played numerous recitals in Europe, America, Australia, Korea, and Japan. Dr. Tategami-Ozawa has written many articles such as "The Art of Accompanying" and "Fascination of Ensemble" for major newspapers and magazines in Japan. Currently, as an associate professor, Dr. Tategami-Ozawa's courses include "Art of Accompanying", "Collaborative Performance Studies", "Chamber Music", "Piano Performance", and "Studies on Musicology" at Ferris Women's University in Yokohama, Japan. Professional affiliations include Pi Kappa Lambda, the Japan Piano Teacher's Association as a steering committee member and sub-chief of the International Division.
