Professor Yo Akioka graduated from International Christian University, and finished his graduate studies at the University of Chicago. His specialty is musicology (music history, music culture, and music journalism) and he tries to dynamically capture various issues that modern musical culture faces, from both diachronic and synchronic perspectives. His publications include Searching One's Own Songs: Western Music and Japanese Songs (Ferris Books), Music of the 20th Century (Tokai University Press, co-translator), Hugh Milton Miller: History of Western Music, Revised Edition (Tokai University Press, co-translator), Kosaku Yamada Collections: Orchestral Music 1 (Shunjusha Publishing Company, co-editor and co-writer), and Pocket Music Dictionary (Ongaku No Tomo Sha Corporation, co-editor and co-writer). He is also active in music journalism, and frequently discusses Christian music studies.
